Open and dry the whole way, including up into American Basin.
One of the switchbacks going up to the pass after the American Basin turnoff definitely requires high clearance and probably 4X4 if wet. A passenger car bumper was beside the road here.

Italian Creek Road |

Easy travel from Crested Butte to Taylor Park (or vice-versa). Drove up Cement Creek road from Crested Butte, over Reno Pass, and down Italian Creek Road to Taylor Park. Open all the way, no significant snow, very little mud. One tree across road, but an easy go-around. Close the gate behind you!

Schofield Pass |
White River/Sophris District |
970-963-2266 |
Descending from Crested Butte side is an approximate 200 ft. long snowfield which had a tendency to push vehicle toward the canyon drop off. Looks like the area has had a lot of moisture lately, making the rocks somewhat slippery.

Open and dry the whole way. This trail is very rocky from Mirror Lake up over the pass and some ways down the other side. The large imbedded rocks required a great deal of care in my stock 4X4 and took more time to negotiate than I had expected.
